There have been a lot of rumors surfacing over the past few days saying that Microsoft may be working on a Zune Phone, zPhone for short. The basis for these rumors is that fact that Microsoft has filled with the FCC; something that is required by all cell phone manufacturers. The Zune is expected to be WiMax-enabled, which means very high download speeds of up to 2Mbps. But like the Zune MP3 player, will you only be able to connect to other Zune Phones? And fill files you download only last for three days? Just kidding. But really, only time will tell.

The first real news is that we can expect to hear an announcement from Redmond about it before March 17, St. Patrick’s Day, at which time we should learn the name of the device. At the same time, we should also learn other launch specifics, and here’s where it gets incredibly juicy; our source says that, pending FCC approval, the specter-like Zune Phone will hit the streets sometime in May, a full month before the iPhone. - CrunchGear

Here at iPhoneNews we will continue to follow the story of the Zune Phone and post any updates as soon as we hear anything. The chances of such a device are slim, as major collaboration with WiMax would be required; not to mention how many of Microsoft’s special Apple-clone scientists would be required. Will it be possible  for Microsoft to release a product without a hard copy already created by Apple? Probably not.

SamsungF700

Today Samsung took the cover off the Ultra Smart F700, which is supposedly one of the world’s most advanced smartphones. With a design that resembles Apple’s iPhone, the new Samsung is aimed at consumers in love with touch screens. The F700 features a 2.8-inch 440×240 screen to control calling, internet access, and music functions. Samsung’s Ultra Smart F700 also includes VibeTonz, a vibration system introduced in the recent W559 that simulates tactile feedback to touchscreen presses. A single navigation button near the bottom of the phone resembles the single button on Apple’s iPhone, while rounded corners and a rectangular shape give the Ultra Smart F700 an iPhone-like appearance. The device includes a slide-out keyboard to accommodate typing and Web browsing, according to Electronista.

There are some other aspects of the F700 that make it superior to current phones; based on the company’s specifications. These features include ava 5-megapixel camera featuring auto-focus. This dwarfs the Apple iPhone’s 2-megapixel camera. The new Ultra is also touted as one of the fastest internet-capable cell phones anywhere: support is provided for HSDPA as well as the new, 7.2Mbps download rates of the 3G wireless standard. The speed combined with the large screen enables the phone to receive a 4MB MP3 file in 4.4 seconds.
